Since you can sync with Dropbox for free, I would have no problem if you started charging a nominal fee to use the carbonfine online/year.

Agree. I would GLADLY pay a subscription to outliner online to ensure it keeps on working and especially if regularly added features. It's languishing right now and it's a critical part of my work flow.
